workshop @ michiruen, japan

Updated: Jul 8

Mission: Supporting individuals with high-functioning intellectual disabilities

Workshop Activity: Coasters and mini woven wall art

Michiruen is a Japanese school for individuals with cognitive disabilities, known for promoting student participation and creative entrepreneurship. Students create handcrafted products and sell them to support their own learning.

Since many students already had crafting skills, Woven UP conducted a more advanced session using fine yarn and tighter warp threads. We focused on weaving coasters and small decorative wall hangings, suitable for both home decoration and as potential income-generating items.

Students expressed great joy and pride in their finished products, each reflecting personal creativity. Through weaving, they found not just a skill, but a form of self-expression.
